[Huluween Interview] 'The Mill' Director Sean King O'Grady on Working with Lil Rel Howery, Strikes and Practical Sets

[Huluween Interview] 'The Mill' Director Sean King O'Grady on Working with Lil Rel Howery, Strikes and Practical Sets

Sean King O’Grady’s single location We Need to Do Something did so much with so little. Now he’s here with another mostly single-location film that builds upon some of the lessons learned when making that film.

The basic premise is that we follow Joe (Lil Rel Howery), a middle manager at a giant corporation who wakes up in a prison with a grist mill in the center. Every day, he has to meet a minimum quota but also has to balance doing too much to make the next day impossible but also to not do too little, lest he get “terminated.” With a boy on the way, Joe must figure out how to get back home to his wife.

As part of Huluween, I was able to briefly sit down with Sean to talk about strikes, giant corporations, working with Lil Rel Howery, building practical sets and more.
